Help with choke tube
I have a Winchester 1300. The factory tube that came with it was a .665. I wasn't to happy with it, so I bought a Tru-glo .665 strut stopper. It didn't do much better than the factory tube. I have decided to get a Kick's gobblin thunder and was thinking, maybe the constriction was my problem. I tried several loads in the other tubes but never found one that worked very well. I would like to shoot 3" #5 shot. What constriction have you had good luck with in the Kick's(espically in Winchester 1300's) Thanks, Don

RE: Help with choke tube
Before you scrap both Tubes, try shooting different size shots in 3" and 2-3/4-
Try #6's and #4's in both and see how they preform.....If you still dont get the results you are looking for then try another tube. As for the constriction, I shoot a .660 hevishot tube with hevishot and the results are incredible... Hevishot, to me is the only way to go. |

RE: Help with choke tube
i have always used #4 shot with my turkey tubes.fed prem, win supreme and hevishot with great success.as already pointed out, different tubes and loads perform differently.i just sent a barrel to carlsons chokes and had it cut down to 22" and a tube installed for #4 shot which was .670.i have not patterned it yet,but they recommended the .670 for #4 shot. from what i understand, if you want to shoot #6 start with a .660 tube,#5 would be .665 and #4 would be .670.this does not mean that a particular brand or load will perform well in your gun.that's why you have to find out what tube and load works best in your gun.if all three major brands of #4s do not suit me with this .670 tube,i will try all three in #5s until i find the one that gives the best pattern.

RE: Help with choke tube
Thanks guys, I did try several different loads in both chokes. I tried #6 and #5 in three brands and honestly, I saw no difference. I was shooting with a scope to center the pattern. At 40 yards, my 12 year olds 870 20 guage with 3" # 6's and a turkey choke made my gun look REAL bad. He was very quick to point this out also:). Don

RE: Help with choke tube
Hevi-shot is made by Remington. It is not lead and weighs more than lead. Requires special chokes to shoot. Don

RE: Help with choke tube
Just goes to show that every gun is different. I have shot 3 different 1300 with 6 different choke tubes. All the .665 tubes( hastings, tru glo and H.S. Strut Undertaker) shot good to very good patterns as long as you tried different loads to find it's preference. The factory ext. full shot horrible as did the Mad Max in .655.
None of the chokes I've shot liked #4 shot. Maybe a more open choke would work better. Some liked #6 shot and other's liked both #6 and #5 shot. None of my gun/choke combos liked the lighter H.V. loads. They all liked the heavier payloads. I've never tried the Hevi Shot ammo. Just haven't had a need to. Hope you fine a combo that works in your gun. |
