turkey chokes ?
I am new to turkey hunting, I just bought a benelli nova 12g. does anyone have this gun and has already field tested different chokes and loads. I can not afford to go out and buy a bunch of chokes and ammo to try and find the best combo, so I am hoping someone here already has. please help

RE: turkey chokes ?
Cristofera, a lot depends on the ammo you want to feed your gun. Even then each gun can show different results. I don't have a Nova but I do have a Super 90. I believe you will find that both barrels are bored to .723.
I currently have four after market chokes but due to the weather I haven't had a chance to test all of them. I can tell you that the Strut Stopper performs well with Lead shot. I have taken turkeys shooting Remington #4's, Winchester HV #5's, Federal #5's, and Federal #6. The Strut Stopper's inside diameter is .665. I have done a preliminary test that shows real promise with a choke that is relatively inexpensive compared to some others. It is a .660 ported Precision Hunter from a company called Trulock Tool. If future testing supports the preliminary shooting this thing will cut a Tom's neck in two at twenty five yards and under with Federal Premium #5's. I still want to runs some more testing on that choke as well as a .660 Kicks Gobblin' Thunder and a .675 Undertaker H.S. that as the HS implies is recommended for Hevishot. When the weather breaks and we get the type of temperatures that we will be hunting in I will do some more testing then. |
