RE: call soft or loud???

It all depends on the situation. If the gobbler is far away, louder may be better sometimes. If he is closer, softer is a lot better. But like I said above, it all depends on the situation. BB

start soft , just in case he is close.give soft a few min. then step it up a little then let the birds set the tone.if you get a responce to loud and then he want answer to soft , go louder again.

as beardbuster said ; let the situation guide you responce.

Always start soft, you never know just how close he may be. If you call too loudly, you just may spook him.

Give it a few minutes then start to get progressively louder.

Once he starts to answer, go with what he likes.

If the gobbler is HOT( gobblin real good) after he hits the ground, then let him have it. loud excited cuts, yelps and clucks. fire him up!:D
soften your callin up when he gets close.

I've found that if you sound too excited, he'll hang up and wait on you to come to him. Like everyone else said, let the bird dictate how agressive you get. If you want a good show, let him get into range and then use some excited cutting. ;)

Take his temperature and see what he wants, some times I don't need to call at all, or many be just a cluck or two and a little leaf raking.
