Jake or not Jake
Just wondering if most prefer using jake decoy with hen decoys (where legal) as opposed to using hen decoys only?

RE: Jake or not Jake
MY BROTHER AND I USED A HEN JAKE COMBO DECOY SET WORKED REALLY WELL

RE: Jake or not Jake
Wouldn't even consider a jake decoy here in Pa. I don't think I would be responding to this if I did. It can be very scary out there.

RE: Jake or not Jake
Depends. If I set up a bird off the roost,I'll use a hen and jake, but if I'm "running and gunning",I usually just take a lone hen.

RE: Jake or not Jake
It all depends on how the turkeys are responding to decoys at the time. If Jake decoys are spooking birds stop useing them. If they are not they can be very productive.

RE: Jake or not Jake
I WOULDNT HUNT WITHOUT A JAKE DECOY. LAST YEAR, IN THE SPRING, I USED 2 HEN DECOYS AND 2 JAKE DECOYS. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM. THE FIRST DAY I HAD A BIG TOM COME RIGHT IN. SMOKED 'EM! THE VERY NEXT DAY, SAME SPOT I HAD 3 JAKES RUN RIGHT IN AND CHALLENGE THE JAKE DECOYS. IT WAS PRETTY COOL! BY THE WAY, 3 CAME IN AND ONLY 2 LEFT. I LOVE IT!!!!!

Thanks for the input and insight. Good luck to all in the Spring

RE: Jake or not Jake
I use 1 jake and 2 hens but have seen other jakes shy away once they see the jake decoy. When shotgun hunting I see this as a plus because I'd rather shoot mature toms but it frustrated me a few times when bowhunting and I will shoot a jake if given the opportunity. I do believe a jake decoy will often get that mature tom to get a little stupid and close in on the hens a little faster.
