Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
My wife and I have a baby girl due on March the 12th. Season comes in on the 15th. Well, we went to the dr on Thursday and she is already having contractions, so he said we aint going to make it to Mar 12th. Well, this just tickled me to no end. She asked me why was I so happy. I told her the earlier she has the baby, the more time she'll have to heal before turkey season starts.:D Needless to say, that went over like a lead balloon. You know, she got real quiet then she got real loud.;) Am I being insensitive here? Or is she just over reacting? Sounds perfectly logical to me.

With age and experience, you will learn to keep some of life's little gifts of satisfaction to yourself. She will just never understand -- unless you get her hooked on turkey hunting, too.;)

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
My son was due last April and didn't come until May 7th
Many days I was hours away in the turkey woods with a cell phone. You gotta do what you gotta do. |
RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
I guess I dont see that your really being insensitive but I can kinda see how she might get a little upset.

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
Sometimes women just don't understand. I am lucky in that area as my wife is very supportive of my hunting. Our little girl was born on April 12th at about 1:30 A.M., not only was I out turkey hunting less than four hours later it was my wifes idea that I go.[8D]

My son was born november ,19 9 yrs ago. Right in the middle pf the best part of hunting season, It was a friday night or early sat morning which ever? And i sead, you have made me the proudest man in the world:) I have a new baby boy, after a little while longer she sead you have been up most the night why don`t you try to get some rest. I sead instead do you mind if i were to go hunting for a few hours? I won`t be gone long. I think i could have sead any thing else but that! And every thing seemed to move it slow motion for a min, Thin she got very upset! [:@] I mean mad![:@] She still bring up that story to our freinds and family today and that was nine yrs ago. P.S just some words of wizdom for all the new dads. DON`T EVER DO THAT!

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
haha, got ya all beat! first, the girlfriend( or whatever she is this week, keeps changing her moods) is a cancer survivor, she is also an amputee from it. she had a hard time carring because of what the chemo did. got pregnant, due four years ago in nov. now, rifle hunting in VT is only for 16 days, 12 before thanksgiving, four after. had trouble carrying, spent much of the last two weeks of oct, rest of nov in hospital. oct is bow season, 9 days in dec is muzzleloader. needless to say, i didn't get out much, paid for it when i did, didn't get a deer. two years later, guess what happens, again? this time, he was born in dec, both kids right smack dab in the middle of the hunting seasons. no deer that year, either. wonder why. screw it, tell her she got herself into, she can finish the job by herself, lol. and then take cover!!

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
As long as she has everything she needs, then she shouldnt worry about it, maybe offer to take the baby off of her hands one day so she can do something she wants to do.....ya'll shouldnt be fighting over the baby and who has to take care of it, you both made it, you both take care of it....the baby comes first, but that is no reason to put your life on hold....hope things work out for ya's......:)

Just keep in mind that her because her hormones are all out of whack she's real emotional about anything and everything. The slightest thing you say can send them into tears.

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
I was in the same boat as RTA47. Nov 19, 1978 my son was born at 12:15AM...Deer season in WV opened on the 20th. My wife and I had a couple of rather spirited discussions about me being in the woods opening day. I did go hunting that morning and then went to the hospital that afternoon to visit her. She tells that story to this day. She thinks that I am fanatical about hunting, but I take it much more serious than that.

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
Well, however it works out, good luck. I enjoy turkey season too and like barefoot said, as you get older you will learn to contain your excitement about opening day. I get in all kinds of trouble due to anticipation of season. BB

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
This will be our 3rd young un'. I have 2 boys (4 & 2). Going to try and get the 4yr old out with me this year a little. Took him deer hunting a couple times this past season and had a blast. The only thing, none of the outings lasted too long, but I'm still trying to get him into it. I will make sure they both have what they need before going to the turkey woods and will probably limit my hunts to be back home by mid day.;)

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
Oh my grasshopper. Number one rule for matrimonial bliss. Dont show
your personal happiness and excitement while she contimplating passing an 8lb baby through a cup size exit! You blew it bud. There is time to make up for it before the season starts though. Congrats on the future hunting partner. |
RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
I've solved that problem...I'm not brigining any children into this world. I figure that there are just too many people in this country of ours the way it is and it's only going to get worse. My siblings have had more than their share so we are covered in that department. Good luck with the hunt!!

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
Well, SOME women don't understand.....I can't say all, but some, unfortunatly my wife falls under the some category...but there are ways around it.....my wife and I started discussing children and I started doing the math.....I figured out the best times to conceive were May, June, and July, due in part because it'll miss spring gobbler season....another good time is Oct., Nov. and Dec because this will miss deer season...when my wife and I started discussing children I done the math, and done some of that "well, i don't know, I think we should think about it more", so when the time was right, I said let's go for it....Actually, to be completely honest, I doing that very same thing as we speak.....to me, that "there will be other hunting seasons stuff" don't hold light....we're gettin older and our time on earth is very limited(to earths standards), a hunting season missed is one gone forever.....so, with that said, Gobbling Buck, I understand completely, we just can't tell all.

RE: Got the 'ole lady steamed.......
Get your wife out in the woods during turkey hunting (next spring), even if she doesn't want to hunt/carry a gun. Maybe take her on a scouting trip, if you do those things and she is adamantly against hunting/shooting a turkey. Hire a sitter for the kids while your out there, so its just you and her in the woods. Make a picnic lunch. Go when there's gobbling a plenty, on a nice warm spring day, and show her how great the experience is. Maybe you'll find a lifelong hunting partner like I did!! Even if not, she'll probably get a better understanding of how we have to deal with our addiction. Of course, for now you should get her a dozen roses (for Valentine's Day and just because) and leave the topic alone until you have a healthy new baby. And in the future, you really do need to be more tactful than truthful. A better answer would have been "I'm so glad the baby is coming earlier than expected, I just can't wait to meet him or her and be a new daddy again!!"
