Pics Of a slate over glass i just finished

Well, The glue for the slate finally hardened and cured. . I am proud of it, it is my first call and it sounds good as hell. The pot is black walnut and i put four coats of poly on it ( the pictures dont do it much justice, even the non turkey hunts think it looks nice) it slate over a glass sound board. I cant believe how good it sounds. I also made a hickory and a purple heart striker.. I tuned them both myself. I will post them once the last coat of poly dries on them. Well i just wanted to share with you all.

Sweet looking call, I bet it sounds sweet to the gobblers this spring too. Was it hard to make? I have been wanting to make some but I don't know where to start.

Rut, that is the thing it was not hard to make at all. Also it cost about as much to make as a commercial friction call, and it looks hell of alot better. Plus you get the satisfaction of doing it. Here is a list of what you need

Wood Pot: Order the wood pot from these guys. http://www.customsawing.com/Pots.htm , they are the only ones who have the wood pots. ( if you want a Poly Pot order from these guys : http://www.grassycreekcalls.com/potsboar.htm i went with e wood cause i think it looks better)

Call surface: These guys have the better price, http://www.grassycreekcalls.com/friction.htm . If you get the glass get the glass that has beeen etched or if you aluminum get the one the is bead blasted, it cost a little more but you dont have to prepare the surface.

Sound board: This goes under your call surface, it helps the call sound better. you dont have to use them but the call will sound alot better if you do. i used the 3" glass under my slate..the directions for this is here: http://www.customsawing.com/Friction%20Directions.pdf

Striker:OK you get the type of wood or acrylic striker here http://www.customsawing.com/Dowels.htm . You also need the top to the striker which you can get from them as well. I got the ash wood top it sounds great. It is better to order the strikers from these guys cause you can oder one at a time instead of having to buy 10 or more.

Glue: Home Depot.

Well i hope this helps. IF you dont want to piece yor call together from the different sites you can orde the kit itself from these guys. http://www.customsawing.com/frictionkit.htm . The Kit has everything you need from from the pot to the glue. I ordered from the different sites becuase i like to save money :).

WEll i hope this helps. If not let me know and i will answer any questions you may have

good luck
