I have hunted with this sun for several years now. Last year I switched to the Pure Gold choke tube and I am now using Remington Hevi-shot 3.5 #5. The pattern at 40 yards is awsome. I have talked with several other choke tube makers about the use of Hevi-shot in their chokes and they don't recommend it. Comp-n-choke was one of these. If you decide to try the Pure Gold choke you can expect to spend around $60.00 for it. You can link to the site at
www.gameacc.net that is just my 2 cents worth.

Good luck this spring

I missed the post on the polishing of the barell and will give that a try. I have heard of others who have used the comp-n-choke and have had good results. I will smooth my bore and try it with the Mossberg choke. I look forward to the results.

I too missed the post on polishing the barrel, but will be giving that a try as well. I've been amazed at the knowledge that is floating around on these boards. Thanks.

I would give Remington HeviShot a try. I would go with No 5's.

I had an 835 for 5 or 6 years and had great results with Federal #6. I also like Win.HV ammo.

I just came back in from shooting my gun with a new scope on it. I was using Federal #5's 3.5 inch shells with a Star Dot choke on it. I only had to make one adjustment on the scope a few clicks down and I was shooting really good patterns out to 40 yards. I had 15-20 pellets in the kill zone at 40yds. I may try polishing my barrel sometime later but I don't want to start over patterning right now.

Is the 0000 steel wool common? Where do you get it at? Was the brass brush just a 12ga. brush for brushing out the bore? Did you just put the WD-40 on the steel wool?

hcurt,
Yes, 0000 steel wool can be bought at walmart, its very common. The brass brush i used was for a .30 cal gun, just something that holds the steel wool in place. I took the small brass brush and wrapped steel wool around it so it was a plug that fit tight in the bore of the barrel. The WD-40 is a trick i learned from building engines, it just speeds the process along. You can do with out the WD-40, it just makes the steel wool cut faster.

Good luck
