Easterns are what I try to hunt in PA. I'd like to get a merriams one day, I just like the colorings they have.

The only turkeys I have hunted is easterns.
I would LOVE to hunt merriams because I think they are the best looking of all except maybe the goulds and they are pretty birds to.

The only ones I have ever killed are Easterns, but I have made up for not getting other species by killing a lot of easterns. These turkeys are a challenge as I imagine all wild turkeys are. I plan on getting all 5 subspecies though, as soon as I can afford it.

I've only been able to hunt Rios and Easterns and love them both, but I'd have to say that the Eastern is little more difficult to hunt- Not near as vocal as the Rios and a little tougher to pursue. But as long as it Gobbles it makes no difference what species it is< I dont discriminate!!!!!

I hunt mainly easterns, but I do agree with Jerry about the Merriams being the most colorful!! One of these years I'll have to go on a spring hunt for one of those beautiful birds!!

I loves 'em all, but my favorites are Osceolas and Easterns. There's something magical about hunting down in the Florida swamps and matching wits with those "evil, hush-mouthed haints" in that strange land, but there's also nothing more beautiful and inspirational than an Eastern strutting down a hardwood ridge. Man, am I ready for it all to begin anew!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only been hunting easterns but I am going after my Merriams APril 15th in Idaho. Thanks to a member of this site I am on my way to start getting my SLAM. I will also be hunting NC and hopefully Indiana. And you're right BT those Florida guys aren't giving IN.
