H.S. Strut and Quaker Boy mouth calls are the brands I have used. There may be better ones made....I don't know. But these have worked for me in the past and I'll continue to use them until something new catches my eye!:)

I personally like Quaker Boy and HS Strut, I also have some mouth calls made by Cody Calls (Yes the slate and glass call manufacturer) and they sound great also.

HS Strut and this year I got a new Primos triple reed. Haven't tried it yet, but it sounds a little more raspy that some.

RE: which mouth calls do you use

Primos True Double II (the "wrinkly" diaphragm call) and a Knight and Hale call, #KH143, but I don't know its other name.

I personally think that everyone starting out on mouth calls should start with a stacked frame call like the Primos True Double, True Double II, etc. I never got the hang of mouth calls until I started using stacked frame calls. After that, when I really got the hang of mouth calls, I also found I could use single framed calls with 1-4 reeds and the many cuts and variations the manufacturers make.

I still like the double frames because I can generate a nice rasp with 'em. I use the KH143 because I get a "second" (or third, fourth, whatever it is) note out of the call when I'm yelping that I think is spectacular, though I can't say all tom turkeys agree. . . :D:D

I also like the single frame multi-reeds that feature a side cut, as I can vary the sound those diaphragms make by my tongue's placement, sometimes enough to sound like two completely different birds.
