Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Mossberg 500

I just got a Mossberg 500 with a XX-full turkey choke and a 24" barrel. I would like some tips on shot size or any other helpfull tips on this gun. This is just my second year of turkey hunting but my first year was enough to get me hooked even if I didn't bag one the expereance was just as good.

hey bama., i was in the same boat last year. had a 500 and a first timer turkey hunting. past on a couple of birds early on to learn more about their behavior hope it pays off this year. anyway i use the Win. Supreme #6 but might try either the 4' or hevi shot this year. I mean they did pattern well but i feel that there is some room for improvement.

My dad has the 500 - he loves it. He is shooting Remington's #5.

Best thing you can do is take it and try a few different brands each of different shot sizes. It can get very expensive to do a thorough test. Do you have any friends that hunt - you guys could each buy a box and share the cost.

If not - I'd try Winchesters and Remingtons 5's and 6's.

I have a 500 and have used it for the last four years. I'm using a Start Dot choke tube (after trying three others) with Federal Premium 3" in #5's. I have tried at least 16 differn't loads in my gun and found this is what works best. For some reason my gun/choke combo hates the Winchester high velocity rounds and the Federal high velocity rounds. Good luck to ya'.

I've used an old mossberg 500 for the past 12years. It has a fixed full choke and the longest shot I've taken was 55 paces, using 3"shells with 2 ounces of
#5 shot. The bird dropped like a stone.
