Most Unusual shot made.
 

I'm curious to know about some of the most unual shots made on a Gobbler.

Here's mine: I had two gobblers coming in, one following the other by about 6 or 7 feet. I'm right handed and they came in on my left, which was ideal, but as I said, one was following the other, they were parallel to me. I had to shoot between to large oaks and from the distance I only had about a foot wide gap to shoot thru. ( I stepped off the shot and it was 29 steps.)
When I shot they both hit the ground, the first was dead and the 2nd one was trying to get up, I had get up and run to them and shoot the 2nd one again. I couldn't understand how I hit the 2nd bird until I went back to my stool and studied the shot window. To my amazement there was a tree about 2 inches in diameter between me and the big oaks, it was obvious that a large amount of my shot hit it. The only conclusion I could come to was that some of the shot was deflected off of it and hit the other bird. When I cleaned him he only had three pellets in him, one thru the left side of his breast, one broke his left wing and one broke his left leg. Weird but true, if I could fiqure how to post a picture I would include it.

I am right handed and shot my bird this past year left handed cause he came in from the wrong direction. It was easier to just switch hands than try and shift/spin my entire body around.

Last year, I had a big gobbler coming down a hill to my call (yes down a hill). I was set up in some thick uderbrush and found that my gun was too long. The bird zig-zagged hit way down and I found myself to be on the wrong side of a sappling when the bird got within 20 yds. So instead of bringing my gun out of my shoulder and around the tree, I just moved the tree and all (slowly) and let him have it. I walked it off and it was 18 steps to the bird and he never knew I was there. That was the first bird I ever called in by myself.

The first gobbler I ever shot was through about a 6 inch opening a couple feet in front of my barrel in a cedar limb overhanging my set-up. The worst part was that I made the shot left-handed, and I am right handed. When I pulled the trigger, he was hit hard but took off in the air and made it about 12 feet off the ground before he fell back and his knees buckled leaving him helpless. My second shot was wide open at less than 10 yards. It almost took his head off. I'll never forget that hunt as it was my first longbeard. It's why I spend so many hours in the woods every spring.

On one hunt here in Ontario , I was working an area that has a few other hunters playing with birds. I called and got anwser so I quickly setup. As i worked the bird the gobbler moved across and came up behind the roots of a up rooted tree about 30-35 yds out. I could see the Fan with no problem moving back and forth and he would stop and sit still for a munite or two, but he would not stick up his head. After waiting out for a shot on this hidden Gobbler for some time ,I noticed a small 2-2 1/2 in hole in the Middle area of the roots. The gobbler would walk back and forth Gobble and stop and look through the hole, with my scope on 3 power I could see the Blue on the face and the eye. He woulf then go into strut and gobble and come back to the hole. The third time he did it again , I decided to give him a bigger hole to look through ;) BANG! , the dirt flew, dust swirled , but no Gobbler. I got up and walked over to the root and there lay behind it with a wide open fanned Gobbler with a Black Eye :D , its funny how a tight shooting gun can work in the hunters favor ...BT

One shot that stands out in my mind was made when a huntin friend and myself had scored on a bird first thing in the morning.He killed the bird so I was up,and later that morning was set-up on an approaching gobbler with my buddy set-up right behind me looking over my shoulder.We were set-up against a small manzanita bush with the trunk in between us as the bird was coming in right out in front of me.At about the 60 yard mark the bird went silent and I knew he was still approaching.When he didnt show up at the pace he was coming in at I knew something was wrong and just as I began to look to my left he gobbled back to my left and behind me!Now he was in front of my partner and as I looked back over my left shoulder behind me over my partners shoulder there he was.The limbs wouldn't let me move my gun completely around so I did the next best thing,I layed my gun down told my partner to give me his gun,and a tough situation turned into a happy one!!!:D
