Although I agree with most of you that just being in the turkey woods in general is what its all about, there still is something that sits atop my list of favorites. I have to say that seeing a tom running into your call at half strut and stopping dead in his tracks to go into full strut is about the most exciting and rewarding things i have ever experienced in the woods. Just knowing that I have excited him enough where he feels it necessary to run to my calls rather than take his jolly time is truly awsome. I'm also suprised nobody mentioned the drumming or spitting, two truly magnificent sights and sounds.

since this spring will be my first hunt i know what i am looking forward to more the kill of a gobbler if that happens, just to hear him break the silence from the roost, the strut in and the other stuff you all have mentioned. the kill is secondary the hunt what i look forward to.

I think the best part of turkey hunting for me is the challenge of getting close to a tom. I'm talking a matter of feet instead of yards. I have several videos that show me or a hunting partner within feet of turkeys, and I have never shot a turkey out farther than 15 to 20 yards. But what I enjoy the most is calling and taping for someone. I would say that 90% of the time, I won't even carry a gun. It is a bigger thrill for me to call for someone else than it is to actually take a bird myself.

YATES... you definetely have something to look forward to. But you have to be patient. there is no guarantee you will see these awsome sights your first year out. it takes time. but trust me its worth it. just the sight of one is truly rewarding. Good Luck!!!

The best part for me, of Turkey hunting is Hearing the Gobbler sounds off, when he is working his way in, And then seeing my Daughter Eyes light up,She 15 now and been going Turkey Hunting the last 8 years with me,When that Turkey sounds off I believe she gets just as excited as I do.

I agree with Jay Hunter, that the spitting and drumming is an awesome sight and sound. As for me, what gets my blood boiling is when there are 20 birds (40 eyes) within 20 yds of where you are, and none of them have the slightest idea what is going to happen in just a few seconds!

I agree, I do love it all.
I really enjoy scouting new areas and trying to find that "secret flock" of birds. It is very enjoyable being in the woods in the springtime. I also love to watch the birds go through their daily routine unaware that I am there.

The first gobble of the entire spring, the one that makes you smile early that first morning. Also when a turkey sneaks in and you suddenly hear him spitting n drumming behind you or that gobble 20 yards behind you when it is unexpected really gets your heard pounding.
