RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I'll take people to all my spots, even the best ones. But they only hunt there when I do...so it doesn't become our spot, by stays my spot.

Don't know if my spots are that good, I will find out this spring, but I would invite others to join me nomatter if they were good friends or just someone I knew. In fact I already have.

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I have a few places I like to keep to myself and a small core of hunters. I too have been burned in the past when I have taken a person to my old "secret spot". We got into a lot of turkeys that year and the next year there were three of his friends, and the next year there were friends of the friends. I still hunt with that person, in a new spot but I have informed him that I would like to keep different spots from the other group. I will normally give hunters "general" areas to look for turkeys miles from my area and let them scout those places for turkeys.

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
not on you'r life,I have been burned by a so called hunting buddies, that has happened a bunch over the past 25 years,so now I only take my wife and sometimes a young kid that can't go without me.there is one "HOT" spot my wife can't go,because she can't walk that far and you have to wade a creek to get to it."it is an island".it takes some of us a long time to learn the hard way,"ONCE LEARNED NEVER FORGOTTEN".
keep you hot spots to you'r slef!!!! I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry. |
RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I dont take every one to all my good spots, but my really good hunting buddies that ive known for years often get taken to my Honey Holes. Especially those that I know wil return the favor. I know I have hunted with others for years and during turkey season, we have always taken turns shooting. We carry it on from year to year, but we honor it with no problems.

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
Well, for me that's easy because I only hunt with one other hunting partner. Most of the time we have different days off and are on our own. It's a mutual agreement that if one of us finds a good spot, it's open game for both of us. I'm just as glad to see him bag a bird as he is for me. I'd have to say that he is the only person I would ever give my spots to. I know I couldn't count on the same loyalty from anybody else.

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
Occasionally, but they know that they can only hunt there when I am there. Every place that I hunt, I have permission cards to be on the land and the people I take know this and so far haven't broken my trust.

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
Last year was my first year, but I found one great spot. My first mistake was telling anyone else about it. My second was taking them there. I think I'll just forget about it and find someplace else. The answer to the question is NO!!!

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I have no problem with showing anyone my areas. You had better be up real early though. John

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I hunt on a 100 acre farm. I have spots I don't even tell the owner about. He hasn't asked either. Some spots are good year after year if there is not a lot of hunting pressure. I've killed turkeys from under the exact same tree in different years.

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
If I had to rely solely on calling to get a bird, I'd probably never get one.
|
RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I agree with GobbCaller. After doing all the scouting, field work, locating, etc. I have enough of a problem with the locals without inviting any more people there. I have a tendency to keep my spots hushed up as well!! While I'm always looking for new areas, certain "Honey Holes" always produce no matter what!! I have heard way to many war stories about taking a "friend" to your favorite spot only to find that same friend there the next time, along with the entire baseball team!! NO Thanks!!

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I'll only take my kids, and my couisin( we started hunting many years ago), you take a friend then the next day he takes his friends,Not all your buddies will do you this way,Why take a chance, AS They Say Been There Done That!!!!

RE: Do you show your prime hunting spot's other Turkey
I have one very good hunting friend that i have shown my spot. Other than that, only my family knows about it because it is on my grandma's land. We try to watch how many birds are taken each year, so the population stays high for years to come.
