Scopes for Turkey Hunting

Why do you need it "illuminated" ? If its that dark , they will be in the roost. Most birds hit the ground after legal daylight hunting hours. There's no reason for that option ...BT

I agree, the reason I mentioned it is because the site I found that had the Simmons scopes used a photo of a illuminated scope so it lead me to believe it was illuminated.
I see it has a nice 5" eye-relief which is good for those hard kicking mags, FOV@100yds 31', and a 32mm Objective. Would you like to see a similar version in 40mm? What about a circle instead of a diamond reticle?
Any thoughts?

Bushnell , makes a circle and its crap, crosshairs are fine ,, as one is shooting a shotgun with a pattern that would be close to 1.5 feet wide with most of in range shots. If one can set a crosshair in the center of the pattern , there is room for any shake or unsteadyness. Just my opinion a diamond or circle just confuses one. With turkey hunting a range of 40 yards is max...BT

Couldnt a diamond or circle perhaps be a benift and be used as a rangefinder if it was sized properly?
Just thought maybe Turkey Hunters had a need for a scope that hasnt been developed yet? Why should users just be given a choice of what the manufactures develope? I think more companies should ask the users and then develope based on their needs.

The center optics of the other companies do work as a rangefinder. personally I find them confusing. Now maybe if you can add a senser in the scope that would display a number of yards the object is. Now I could handle that. As far as turkeys are the shooting range is only out to 40 yards. One should be able to guess that sort of range. Now if you need a tester , i'd be happy to help out...BT

As I stated in an earlier post, I use the Leupold Vari-X II 1x4 shotgun scope with the heavy duplex. The variable power range is handy if you need to check out a turkey that is out there a good distance, then crank it back down to 1x for the shot when you work him in. The matte black finish never goes out of style like camo finishes. The heavy duplex reticle works wonderfully in low light conditions. Leupold scopes are tough as nails and will hold their zero. Plus, they come with a warranty that is second to none. I believe the "perfect turkey scope" has already been invented and been around for quite a few years!

Like MOT, I have the Leupold 1X4 shotgun scope on my gun as well. I use my gun for both deer and turkey hunting by just switching the barrels since my scope is reciever mounted, hence the 1X4 power. But if I were looking for a scope to put on a gun set-up "just for turkey hunting", Leupold came out with a compact 2X scope called the turkey ranger with a special reticle similar to the german one post reticle.
That compact scope being lighter than the 1X4 scope, and with that special reticle, would be the one scope that I would get. That would be my first choice.

in a 1.5-4.5x32
Well, here's a photo of a new design. It would accomodate the shooter that wanted to use the Shotgun for Turkey hunting and could also use it when slug hunting (fine cross hair in the circle). It has a little bit of the Simmons Pro Diamond design but doesnt have the heavy post on top which the Pro Diamond has (I dont see a reason for the heavy post on top). It also has the heavy European type reticle (heavy duplex-fine post) incorperated such as the Leupold has. It would be a variable 1.5-4.5 which could also be utalized for both Turkey Hunting and slug hunting.

I have a 2.5 power bushnell on my 835 and have never regretted having it on there. it has duplex crosshairs, I looked at the prodiamonds and such but I just like a cleaner sight picture.
when the bird breaks 40 yards my head is on the gun and both eyes open following the bird and watching what is going on. one thing is for sure you can truly center your pattern with a gun inlike the bead sites.
