RE: GRASSES FOR TURKEYS

Turkeys are in fields during the spring more for the bugs than the grasses. That's not to say they won't eat grass blades or clover leaves, 'cause they will. But the hens are trying to get protien and other essential nutrients for egg laying. Then the poults will eat bugs for around 80% of their diet for the first few weeks. Leave the clover as it has high protien and draws bugs. If you have other fields that are bare now, wheat is probably the best bet. It will still take a month or so before you get short, green sprouts, assuming you get rain. It is a bit late. If you do plant, then make sure you fertilize. By fertilizing you increase palatability (tastes better) to turkeys and to bugs.
Oh, yeah. Don't worry about high dollar seed. Just ask for "feed" wheat. It is cheap and will come up fine. I would plant at least 50 pounds to the acre and double that if you just have a couple of acres to plant.

No jakes!
