Poult is right , Volume calls work well as airpresure is lower and the higher volume calls tend to reach out. Tube Calls,Boat Paddles, and Aluminum surface calls work great. 1 thing to keep in mined , if you want a White Tipped Gobbler you may have to pass up a few, its not unusal to see Buffed tips in merriams...BT

Because of their sheer numbers here in Washington state, right now they' re all I hunt...I think they' re one of the prettiest species anyway with their white tips on the tail feathers.

I' ve been told they' re one of the easier species to hunt because they talk a little more. They' re a fairly vocal bunch of birds especially if you are hunting during the hen gathering phase or when the hens are sitting on eggs. If they are henned up then they tend to shut up big time. Then, I would suggest working the hens instead of the toms and get em pissed off so they' ll come your way and bring the toms with them.

It must be a real treat for you guys to hunt Merriams if all you have where you live is Easterns.....That' s what I love about Washington state...we boast that we are the ONLY state in the ENTIRE 50 United States that has three of the four subspecies of turkeys...the merriam, eastern, and rio. I love it here!
