Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Just for fun, I would like people tell what there favorite turkey call is, and why.
Just Somthing Cool and see what calls many people use.:) |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Primos Lil' Hart Breaker..Called in many toms with it for friends last year and my self.
|
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Knight and Hale Ole Yeller
Primos Power Crystal |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Mouth calls: Knight & Hale Split V. I can cluck, purr, and yelp really well on this baby.
Box calls: HS Strut Lil' Strut " Natural" , Custom-made box call by my friend Howard House; cherry box with cherry paddle. Both of these produce a nice, high, raspy call. Howard also makes a very small rectangular box call with a very small striker that sounds like nothing I' ve ever heard before. Drives the toms freakin' crazy in close range. Slate calls: Mad Calls " Aluminator" with carbon and wood strikers. Just a nice sounding call. Locator calls: Screamin' peacock, Coyote howler, and Pileated Woodpecker. |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
My Favorite call a turk makes is the spit and drum:D
But the calls that I use is the Mountainside Game Calls, Raspy cutter. It has called in many birds for me. It is a local call company here in PA. |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
I' ve got a couple of custom boxes I like, plus the old Fool Proof.
Then there' s the Primos True Double diaphragm. Of course I can' t forget my Cane Creek glass call...or the aluminum.:) If forced to pick one, I' d probably go with my Pine Ridge box. High and raspy on one side and low and sweet on the other. Or maybe the glass....[8D] |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Black Magic slate by H.S.Strut, Lynches World Champion box, Quacker Boy Old Boss Hen diapragh and custom box made by a friend.
|
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Blodgett Tough Country slate over glass. Ear-piercing loud and sexy-talking soft all in the same call.
Close Calls Double Trouble slate over slate in turned red cedar pot. Simple, beautiful and great sounding. Tyler |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
HS Strut mouth calls. However, finally got my box call made and hopefully if it brings in a gobbler this spring will be my favorite call:D:D

RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
I' ve called a bunch of turkeys in with a relatively cheap H.S. Strut Black Magic Aluminum call which was a favorite call for several years. But last spring, I bought a www.harrisongamecalls.homestead.com Osage Orange slate over glass and a www.americanfriction.com Cut-N-Paddle box call. These two calls quickly became my favorites after calling in 2 nice gobblers with them last spring. I would highly recommend any of these calls if you are looking for calls that will work.

RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
MOTT,
That' s the first call on my list for this year! I' ve been talking about it for two years and never got around to it, but I promise, I will have one of Steve' s Osage Orange slates in my hand this year!! Tyler |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Hey PABB, you won' t regret getting an Osage Orange slate, they are nice to look at and nice to listen to also! The turks seem to like them too!;)
I' ve been thinking about getting a Blodgett Tough Country slate this year. I know you talk highly of them. They sure look good in the pictures I' ve seen. Gonna have to get one I guess!:D |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Dont know if I have one particular favorite, but I do use alot of H.S' s mouth calls.Last couple of years I' ve kinda grown fond of there Old Boss Hen in the tone trough frame!!:)

RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
i' m a diehard primo' s power cyrstal fan, it wont go in the woods without me:D....i have gotten some news calls glass and a glass/slate from andy kiaser, they sound just as sweet , if not sweeter , so i will be bringing those too:D

RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
My favorite, sound wise, is a MAD crystal slate. But I always have a Quaker Boy diaphragm in my mouth.
However, I think a good box call is hard to beat. A lot of the time when I think I hear what I think is a hunter using a box call, it ends up actually being a turkey. |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Absolute favorite is a homemade tube call, film canister and condom for the latex. I can do just about all with it, from soft yelps to gobbles...

RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Been getting fond of using a boxcall so i like my Rod Haydels Custom cherry wood box call.
Mouth calls- QB' s Begginer double....<---- taught me how to cluck and purr. Screaming Green Pro Triple & Raspy Adrians few home made split v' s he made for me. Slates- K&H' s Sla-tek Ole Yeller QB' s Triple slate |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Last year was my first year chasing turkeys and I am hooked! I used a Raspy Hen box call from Woods Wise and it worked great. Had 2 gobblers working to me then at about 50-75 yards out 3 hens moved in and stole my tom! How dare they!! I also used a Knight and Hale Old Yeller and an HS Strut mouth call (I don' t remember exactly which one) but the box call was the one that worked.

Slate call I switch back and forth with a Cody and Steve's Osage Orange.
Glass call I mostly use a Cody Box call is HS Strut Old Mama Hen I have lots of other calls but these are the ones I end up using. Still trying to learn how to use a mouth call. |
RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
Right now, as inexperienced and as ignorant as I am at the moment on this entire business, I'd say my favorite is the one I'm most comfortable with right now. And that's my Southland Pro Series 3 Reed Penn Special, cause I finally made a decent sound out of it. I've got a couple of homemade box calls as well, but I haven't had much to compare them too, yet, so I'm not sure what I've got. But, I will say that that mention of the Blodgett Tough Country slate over glass caught my eye.

RE: Just For Fun. Favorite Turkey Calls.
I love to use the Primos Power Crystal with a Woods Wise Mystic stick. It will make cutts so loud you can hear them in the next state. The purple heart striker that comes with the call is really good also. For mouth calls I like the H.S. Strut Split V 4 and the Primos Power cutter 2.5 and 3.5.Crow calls is the Primos Power Crow. You can even yelp and cutt and make a coyote howl with it and for owl calls it's the H.S. Strut Palmers Hoot Tube.
