Why am I finding eggs laying around

Why am I finding single eggs laying around my place. Unbroke just laying around months apart. Why, this seems very strange.

First year, young hens do this. They get the urge to lay an egg, and they do it. They haven't put together the whole nesting thing yet. A friend of mine once brought me a nest of hatched grouse eggs. Among them was a hatched turkey egg. The turkey had laid her egg in the grouse nest and apparently the grouse hatched it!
