We're homeschooling kids. Don't think I'm going to be able to get out. :(

Yes good luck and safe hunting. Was out this am on my buddies 40. Bow only second day of season and the only place I can hunt this year again. Called in 2 different toms at different setups but they hung up at 50 and 45 yards. Too far for bow. Its too open in the woods right now and they can see a long ways and just stand out there gobbling and strutting ! At least its a pretty show.

-Jake FWIW, this year is an awesome year for turkeys. |
Most of all keep it safe and enjoy the hunting! I surely hope that everyone heading out gets to bring a bird back with them. This year will be my first year at introducing a new hunter to the world of turkey hunting. I am hoping that he will score one as well. He knows nothing about hunting them and I am going to try and be his teacher. He has recently retired and wants a chance to check it out. I have scouted this morning and saw a few birds. So hopefully the turkey gods will be with us! Our season opens for us on Monday!! Wish us luck as I have never experienced this before but will do my best to help him get a bird..

FWIW, this year is an awesome year for turkeys. Issue is I don't have anywhere decent to hunt here in Ohio. For turkey I head over to PA. And can't make the trip with homeschooling the kids right now. I may slip out behind my dad's a couple early mornings maybe I'll get lucky. -Jake |
That makes sense. Homeschooling kids is like a full time job. But worth all of the effort. That sucks not to have good turkey hunting locally. We really are blessed in California. There are turkeys everywhere. We have a 3 tom limit in Spring and 2 of either sex in the Fall. Spring turkey season is awesome. Fall is more of a challenge but still fun. The wife and I are considering retiring out of California in a few years. So far, turkey hunting is high on the requirements list. I don't know if I could live in a state with poor turkey hunting.
