Best season ever!!

First of all I want to thank everyone that has helped me along the way. I mean back around 12 or so years ago turkey hunting was all new here with half day hunts during the spring season and you had to travel during the fall season halfway across the state. For three years I had no luck. Then after traveling down state I got my first fall turkey with my bow! But by asking questions and having everyone chime in the curse got broken. Some answers I may not have cared for but they all helped me along. So a big thank you to all. This morning I ended my two bird season with two first! The first bird on Monday tipped the scales at 23 pounds even with a 10 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. Heaviest bird ever for me. Then this morning while hunting at camp I got a very nice bird that tipped the scales at 20.2 pounds with both spurs being 1 inch even and a double beard! The first beard being 7 1/2 inches and the second beard being 5 1/2 inches! WOW! What an awesome week and season of turkey hunting this has been! Thank you all again as I wouldn’t have ever done this if you folks never guided me along in the beginning.. Just to think that I contemplating on whether to even turkey hunt this year..

congrats on a great season there, and for advancing your skills, it takes a desire to do so, but some desires are more fun than others
turkey hunting can be a fun time, all the more so when there talkative and really make you feel like your a part of the game and know hat your doing!

and them then days when things are so quiet, that make you wonder if you know anything at all about them, LOL

Thank you Jake and mrbb as well..

The birds were not talking to me at all. The only one that did was a jake this past Wednesday morning. He was fun and came right out to me after I saw him crossing a dirt road that I was traveling on after working all night. I never even had my camo on and he came right back out around 25 feet of me. Maybe by not having camo on erased his fear? I don’t know but that made him appear stupid to me. I just laughed to myself and let him walk away.

Thank you kellyquinn.. It has been hard hunting here as well. There has been no gobbling at all except for one morning jake gobbled. I found them in the hardwood where the snow melt made small run offs. I am not any kind of master just lucky to have found them. The hens gave them away..

Wow.
.I'm way late.
Awesome job Phil.

You are right. Many years if running Turkey contests and helping people. That is what my hunting is about, still is.

I set out this yr as I put all my conventional shotguns away.
I used only blackpowder.

And scored with all 3!
A heirloom 16 ga I believe was my great grandaddies percussion fowler.
A White Tominator 12 ga inline. Shot 2 wd's with this and ffg lat out missed one!
And finished with the Pedroselli 10 ga.

Closest shot was 3 yards.
Farthest was 13 yards.
I passed on 7 birds over my 25 yard goal.

I also took out 3 people who now all have their 1st.

But shooting a multiple bearded bird...awesome

Thank you JW.. Those contests were a lot of fun and gave a lot of input to people like myself trying to figure out how to get it one.. I am grateful for those days back then. I most likely would have given up hunting them if it wasn’t for all those chiming in. You helped me along a lot and chimed in whenever a question was asked about it. Thanks again.

Hey Phil thanks.

I always saw this type of media as a chance to share ideas. I also learned along the way and am still learning at 35 yrs into this sport.
The contests helped me meet many fine people and a few I hunted with.
If you ever get to Wisc and want to hunt Old Man style contact me.

Thank you and thanks for the offer.. While I am not sure if I will ever be out that. I am always trying to learn and figure those birds out. It appears to be a different challenge every year for them. But it surely is a lot of fun..

Phil from my experience
35 yrs at this spring sport and I learn a new trick every year so far.
