Turkey hunting this spring?
2 Attachment(s)
Hi all I had been seriously debating on whether to go turkey hunting this spring. That’s after hardly seeing any birds this fall. I had only saw a group of five hens and an occasional jake. That all changed yesterday when I heard a gobble as I was getting ready to go to camp. So I figured what the heck and got out a turkey call. Around a half hour later thirty turkeys were going by the house. Now that will get your blood pumping for sure! So now without a doubt turkeys are on my spring hunting list again. Here’s two pictures of them..

Turkeys bunch up around here in the winter wherever the food is. So areas that hold them all year might not have any..
But a mile up the road there might be 300 of them. -Jake |
Some years are better than others but not going at all isn't an option for me. :D

I dont like that option |
Phil - spend more time scouting and less time complaining :poke:
In all honesty though - I agree with JW - I'm pretty sure I'll be dead before I stop turkey hunting... |
I'm always on a scouting trip. And based on last yrs agricultural crops from my gained knowledge I know where the birds will be.
Now is the time to start. A recent scout. Found 2 flocks, and a third a bit later. JW |
I bought some DSD decoys last year as an investment into turkey hunting. Last year there was hardly any birds but I did tag out by the end of the season. The flocks we have been used to seeing just aren’t there like we used to have. This area is not like those big farm lands and a lot of predators. But yes I will be at it again this coming season and skip the fall season. Last fall I was strictly scouting for moose and not turkeys. This fall I will be scouting for deer with a bow..

Sounds like it's time to pop a few predators.

That's a good idea actually. It always helps to protect your herds.
