Greenish spots after smoking turkey

Smoked a breast from last year and when cutting into it these greenish dots were in it. Yall think this may be from copper plated shot from when someone else made a bad shot? Kinda makes ya think twice about eating it

I wouldn't think twice, I wold toss it away. It is a shame.

Never seen that before but I would not eat it. I spend quite a bit of time making sure I get any shot out that entered the breast. Its usually pretty easy to see the penetration but no always easy to find the shot.. Just have to dig till your satisfied its not there.

Nope id pitch it. Doesn't look safe to eat

looks like mold to me, and I would NOT eat any of it, as mold can be where there is NO showing of it!(green)
I would make sure I cleaned out that smoker VERY VERY well too
spray it down with something that kills bacteria and mold!
(human safe, Vodka works!)
Bleach too, but will smell for a while!
and the fact its on this meat, says that the mold might have come from your smoker, so, heads up on other things you may have made in it and froze or??

That really sux. Looks like it was a real nice moist smoked breast you did there. Did you brine it?

kellyguinn 04-19-2019 03:42 PM

Yea I brined for 24 hrs and wrapped in bacon. Smoked 2 from 2 different birds. The other one was fine.

Thanks for the info. Sounds delicious and I'm glad you got some good eating out the other one. I've not smoked one yet cause I was worried it'd be too dry. But I am definitely gonna give it a try this season!.

Thanks again

The key to smoking wild turkey is brining it overnight. I also put a bacon blanket around the breast while it smokes. Comes out with good moisture and excellent flavor. .

I would do what others have suggested and not chance it any..
