Anyone getting out after fall birds?

Nope. My season Is already over. I never got out :(

I want to but I'm still working on a bear.

Yes sir, this is my favorite time of the year to hunt. I have a great dog, we've hunted in KY, NJ, & NY so far this fall. Killed a bird in NY & NJ, found a lot of birds in KY, but they didn't want to play nice, and doubled with a buddy in NJ. I plan to hunt in PA a couple days after Thanksgiving, and will also hunt the late seasons in MD & VA. Since I started fall turkey dogging, my days in the woods hunting deer have become pretty limited, but I'm sure I'll get a couple for jerky & sausage before it's all over.

I've read about it quite a bit but have never hunted turkeys with a dog. I'm sure it's a blast.

I always enjoyed spring turkey hunting, and was becoming bored with deer hunting after 40 years. Successful hunting with a dog requires a lot of skills...scouting, walking, dog handling, sitting still, calling, and being able to shoot from almost any position. I guide a lot of guys (unpaid), always great to bring a new person into the fold.

Uncle Nicky, I had a turkey dog that was mix of setters and pointers. It was a lot of work getting him to bark on break but the most rewarding when he did it to perfection. I got maybe 2 years out of him before epilepsy claimed him 14 months after his initial seizure.

Redmag- sorry to hear the bad news. My pup Maizy is mostly pointer, with English setter & foxhound bred in. I was fortunate that she instinctively barks on the break, my biggest problem is keeping her to sit still when I have birds coming back, her prey drive is that strong.

Uncle Nicky, Jake was also a basket case when calling the birds back. The first time he broke a flock he laid beside me a quivered. I had fleece covers for him but he wanted none of that. Thereafter my brother and I were together and one of us would leash him and walk off a ways with him. He was only 4.5 years old when he left back in 95' and not a days passes that I don't think of him. We spent many days walking the woods in Eastern WV searching (illegally) for flocks for him to break. I have an ES now but don't hunt him and for that matter rarely fall hunt anymore. I think he'd hunt for me. My ES loves to chases birds and will bark at the gackles that land in large groups in the yard.

I have 2 fall seasons in my area.I didn,t make it out for he first but hope to on the short 3 day season over t/giving.
