Huge Flocks?

Saw a flock today.. I stopped counting at 130.... and there seemed to be that many more back in the woods moving around that I couldn't see.

So what's the deal? Do they bunch up in the winter like deer? Will that flock stay together all year?

I did some mouth calls and several birds immediately went into strutting.

Got me excited. This was less than a half mile from a property I'm allowed to turkey hunt.

Not uncommon to see big flocks like that this time of year. Food availability dictates where they go. They will be splitting off in groups as the days get longer and warmer.

It sounds like a good start on scouting. Talk to your local fish & game office and see what early spring food sources will come in. That might help you get a jump on patterning that flock for the season opener.

They were in a guys back yard.

I wonder if he's throwing feed out possibly. Was a pretty cool thing to see
