Thinking about a new gun

Time to get a better gun for turkey hunting. I like having a specific gun for each kind of hunting I do. I have a muzzle loader, and an H&R Slug gun, and now I want something for just turkeys. I have been looking at a few different ones. I would probably be putting a Red dot scope on whatever I buy. Anyone have any input with either of these guns?

The second one has a slug barrel so that probably won't work....unless you have a different barrel for it. Have you looked at the 835 Ultramag by Mossberg? Very popular for turkey. Can't go wrong with a 500 either....just make sure whatever you eventually buy is drilled and tapped.

If a pump is wanted I would say the Mossberg 835 or the Remington 870 Super Magnum, both are perfect turkey slayers.

Semi Auto, Remington 1187 Super Magnum or the Mossberg 935

I see you got the Turkey Thug. Very nice gun.

Hi there!
I own a Winchester SXP and have immensely enjoyed it. Admittedly, I have not shot turkey loads through it, yet, but I find the recoil-assisted ejection, the Invector+ chokes, and over-boring are great features.

Mine has a 28" barrel, but here's two turkey models; note that the prices are a good $120 or more lower than what you've got up there:

Thanks! I love it! Just need to mount a Red Dot on it, and start shooting it..

I put a red dot on my Mossberg 2 years ago and absolutely love it.

What red dot would yall recommend for the 835? I shoot the 3" win longbeards thru it as I didn't see much difference in performance of the 3.5" other than not being able to keep the gun in my hand lol. (Its an older one I believe made in the early 90s)

I use a Bushnell Trophy multi-reticle dual color on my Ithaca 37 guide series and have been impressed. Had the same scope for 10+ years. It holds for 3" Longbeard XR turkey loads in the ported turkey barrel and 2 3/4 sabots in the rifled deer barrel.

I put the same red dot on my sons Weatherby SA-20. I'm in slug-only country and am looking at a Savage 220 for deer, keeping my Ithaca as a devoted turkey beast. I'll consider the same red dot for the Savage, but that gun can reach out 200+ yards though, so it's likely going to get true optics, probably a 1x4 or 2x7...

I've used Remington 1187 3 inch for yrs.
Recently I picked a youth Remington 870 in a 20 Ga.
Added a Pacmeyer slip on rubber recoil pad for length. Added a Buck Creek neoprene monte carlo pad in black. The whole firearm is black with a black synthetic stock and forearm. Added a Square D scope mount and Bushnell diamond reticle 2 x 5 scope and couldn't be happier.
Also topped it with Primos 20 Ga. Extended
Xtra full choke tube.
Use Winchester Super X copper plated 5s in 3 inch.
Patterns beautifully.
Is very light to carry.
