A patch of "Scotchbrite" works for me when it needs it.

I've never used one and am very curious to know how it sounds.

I've got one...hunt pretty much exclusively in Florida; I carry a few Preston Pittman diaphragm calls, a wingbone I made from a jake, a natural slate and an aluminum pot.
At 7:00 am when the dew point matches the temperature, the slate always has some wet patches. The aluminum won't be effected by this (I have a carbon striker that works in all conditions, but I also use a purpleheart and another hardwood woodhaven striker on the aluminum and they sound (different) but great and don't seem effected by moisture either). I have a piece of scotchbrite or facsimile thereof tethered to the call at all times. Condition the call often and in the same way I use 200grit sandpaper on the slate |
I generally prefer the natural slate, but the aluminum has worked for me and sounds good and raspy
