Chokes
Just wondering what choke works best in the mossberg 835 ultimag. I'm using the Winchester long beard xr. Thanks!

I haven't shot the longbeards yet but the Winchester Supremes out of my .680 Kicks ported choke are freakin deadly. I'm gonna try some LB's but I am hearing a lot of hunters saying their too tight up close.

What choke do you have available for your Mossberg if you've already decided what shell you want to shoot? The only way to know is to pattern your gun and find out what it does at various distances BEFORE you go hunting. The shell you mentioned is a killer with a choke that will pattern it and the price is very reasonable compared to some of the other popular turkey loads.

Try a turkey choke from Mossberg. Most shotgun manufacturers make decent choke tubes that work well in their firearms.

I have patterns at 30yds look like they were shot at 20yds with an X2, ported, polished, cones lengthened and with glass. 3" LB XR 6's and a Wrights Tube. |
At 13 yards, an open choke would have taken the head off a turkey! I have a Mossberg 935, the extended turkey choke that came with the gun shoots a great pattern

At 13 yards the wad itself probably took it's head off, LOL!

Your more than likely right TG, I have found the wad in my testing over 20yds from the bench. I have had them punch a hole in the paper at 20yds. They look just like the Federal FlightStopper wads with the little "air brakes" on the back, But still carry how far. That's why I think they shoot so doggone tight as in addition to the polyresin they pour the shot into. I wish they made them in 2's, BB's in a non-tox and then lead 4 buck. They would be a smashing load for geese and coyotes!!!!!! |
