Boat paddle box calls
Does anyone use this type of call? I currently own two of them, one by Quaker Boy, their Mini-Boat paddle box call, this one still sounds awesome!!! The other call was a custom made one from a friend of mine. He calls it the "Burrville Bomber", it's quite a large boat paddle call, and I carry it in my decoy bag. Too big for my vest....lol

Never heard of them called a boat paddle box call. Simply called box calls. They along with the wing bone call or Turpin call were about all there was before turkey hunting became popular.

I guess the main reason they call them Boat paddle box calls is the bottom or main body of the call is made out of a single piece of wood. At least that's what I was told.

Yep I do. It is one of the 3 boxes I carry. In fact my boat paddle helped single out one tom from the 60 plus birds in front of us on this past weekends Learn To Hunt to which I am a presenter - Hunting Safety & How to Section and a Mentor. I had the pleasure to Mentor an 11 yr old girl who had more grit than most boys I know. It was cold, it snowed, our morning set up was a bust as not a peep. But she did not quit. As I told her it was her hunt and it was to be fun. "Fun" she goes - let's go find some turkeys! and that we did.
Cuz of the snow and cold weather those rascals flocked back together. But given a chance at a quick safe shot with my ole "Meat in the Pot" 11-87 with a 3 inch. The young girl put the smack down on a strutting two year old. It was the boat paddle that coaxed the 20 to 30 plus hens our way.... JW |
