Needle sharp spurs

Wanted to show some impressive needle sharp spurs on a past gobbler.

Those aren't real long, but they would certainly do some damage!

Good looking spurs. What part of the country did he come from?

All of my hunting is in Western NY. Those spurs were over 1" long, and that is a very dandy pair in anyone's book. While not 1 1/2" long, which has the odds of shooting a 14 point buck, I'll take spurs like these any day!!!

Yea, I didn't mean to diss them on their length and they are definitely longer than I think the picture shows.

No harm TG, think everyone is starting to get a little antsy for their season to get here.

Hey, I haven't shot a 14 pointer yet, but my best bird has 1 1/2" spurs, a big paintbrush of a beard, and a fan the size I've never seen any other bird come close to!

Great looking spurs for an eastern turkey taken in the north east. I have shot a ton of turkey and some of my best birds didn't have spurs that were that nice. A neighbor got a 22 pounder last year with razor sharp 1 1/2 inch spurs. My biggest to date is 1 1/4.

That's the Holy Grail for me, 1 1/2" spurs. Pretty rare in my parts, taken a lot just under and just over the inch mark, but that quest lingers on for me. For all those who have taken a gobbler with 1 1/2" spurs, that their is a very special bird indeed. Congrats!!!

in the rocky terrain here, they don't hardly ever get to 1.5" here, I have 10 sets in my beard case that are 1.375" but only have ever saw 1 bird killed locally that had an inch and a half long spur, he only had 1 the other was broken off, my last set of hooks

Are you guys measuring your spurs the way the NWTF does for an official score like this picture shows? If you aren't, you're shorting yourself a little!

Ridge Runner 03-05-2016 07:44 AM

normaly I do but measuring and photo'ing by myself its easier like I have the pic up there

Yea, I figured as long as you've been around that you would know how to measure and that photo was like you mentioned. My comment and picture was more for guys that are new to the sport and especially the ones that enter the site contest. Measuring them like the photo shows can get some added length, especially if they are decent and have some real hooks to them.
