Nebraska Turkey Hunting

I will be in Nebraska turkey hunting next weekend - May 16-19. I am planning on hunting public land and asking permission on private if the opportunity arises. Somewhat on the "no plan" plan, but would like to know if anybody has any input on where to focus my attention, any good contacts for advice, or if somebody happens to know a place where I can pay a small trespass fee to hunt. Thanks.

I hunted near the Ponderosa WMA near Chadron. I got on a lot of birds but be prepared to do some walking ! I had a gps because I probably walked 10 miles a day chasing those wandering Merriam's !

Nebraska is not a small state by any means. Any info on what town or city you may be going towards?

Well, I am planning on entering the state from the South (hunting in Kansas first), and hunting near Alma, NE around the Harlan County Lake reservoir. If that isn't fruitful, I was going to head north to McKelvie National Forest or possibly even over to Chadron and hunt the National Forest there. However, ideally I would like to stay in the Southern portion of the state, around the Republican River.

Lots of public land around northwest Nebraska.

There is a lot of public land around Harlan. A lot of birds around there also. There should be a map of what is public.
