How long can you call turkeys in?I'm a self taught turkey hunter and most of the turkeys I've gotten were jakes.Last season I started to leave at noon and as I stood up I saw a gobbler on the other side of the field so I sat back down and started calling. He was the biggest and oldest turkey I've ever shot.So I was wondering when should you stop calling for the day?

I will give you my two cents on this subject. I have had success in the afternoons and evenings just as much as early morning. I rarely go turkey hunting when I have to be there at 4 Am and sit and wait till sun comes up.

There will be a lot of different opinions on this topic. If there are birds in your hunting area then I would hunt as long as you feel you need too. Good luck

The simple answer is from the time you can see to shoot until legal quitting time wherever you're hunting! Up here in MI we can hunt until it's darn near dark in May and I've killed good birds right up until almost quitting time. The older I get the more I hate the early morning wakeups so I do that a day or two and then sleep in a day or two and don't go out until I can't sleep any longer. If you don't get a Tom off the roost in the first hour, the longer you stay out the better chance you have after the hens start going to their nests the middle of the morning and the Toms have to start looking for new company.

Thanks that's what I wanted to hear.

In Colorado you can hunt 30 min. before and after sunrise/ sunset and that's what I do. You will get more gobblers if you pattern them and head to the roost area around three and stay in that area as long as it is legal shooting hours, gobblers here tend to get very lonely and remain around the strut and roost area calling hens.

I just called a bird in for my brother (youth season) yesterday at about 7:15 PM. There are times of the day that generally are more productive for calling turkeys, but turkeys can be called at any time of the day.
