The Black Hills of SD without a doubt is where I'd go for a Merriams, which I think is the prettiest of the four main birds. The license is OTC and the season is long without a ton of pressure since there is a couple million acres of NF there. The few times I've hunted there it was in the triangle between Mount Rushmore, Custer, and Hill City. You can stay in motels, cabins, or camp out and the few times I've hunted there I didn't run into another hunter. I was thinking about going out there the first week of May this year again, but will need to save my money for the two month trip I'm taking to Wyoming this Fall. Here's a nice Tom I took on one of our trips and it was just north of Custer Park.

Anytime man! :s4:
There is a quite a bit of public land around where I'll be hunting this year and I plan on checking a bunch of it out. I'm going semi guided this year but would love to go back next year and hunt public. So I'll be hunting for this year and trying to scout for next year.

Donnie, what part of Kansas do you typically hunt?

Lawrence ks. :)

I would just love to shoot a bird that "LOOKS" like a Merriam.

I've been blessed with some amazing turkey hunting, but I would like to shoot something besides an Eastern some day.

Thanks for the input!

HA!!! Lol!! Then I would definitely go to Nebraska, the pine ridge area has a lot of public land and not a lot of hybrids.

Than you Swamp buster!
I truly appreciate the help!
I'll let you know if I am able to get up there this season.
