Post your Spring turkey tip
If you had one (or more) tip to give someone on Spring turkey hunting what would it be? Post up archer or shotgun. Some states allow center fire for turkey, so I guess it all goes.
Mine - Use a submissive hen / standing drake decoy pattern. |
"You can call too much, but you can't hardly call too little".

Be where they want to be. Scout hard and pattern your birds.
|
I've found and been advised by several other hunters that if you plan on using a blind and are hunting on a field, set up in the middle of the field close to where the birds travel. They don't (for some reason) associate the blind as a threat being out in the open. Put out a hen and a jake decoy and watch the magic happen!
|
Patience, lots and lots of patience.
|
Park your truck (or vehicle) out of sight.
|
scratch the leaves like a hen feeding.
If you think you've waited long enough, wait another 30 minutes. Be where the turkeys want to go. Gman |
Pattern your shot gun and take your time puling the trigger.

Over Calling cant be stressed enough. Many Hunters have lost Many Birds due to over calling. And its hard not to. Its very tempting. Every time they gobble you want to blast back at em. But Dont. I have heard, & seen it happen myself. That when a Tom hears a hen talking back to him that much, He thinks shes desperate. And will wait for her to come to Him. But, When you call very little, the Gobbler will realize that shes not gonna come running to him. So he will be more likely to come in to youre setup. Hope this helps!
