I've had years where I was poking around new public properties, learning the ropes, and getting shutout. Did so early season on new Illinois & Wisconsin properties this year. But late season picked up some leftover tags in the Wisconsin units I am very familiar with, and the tune changed. Even found a slammer honey hole there where I took 2 mature toms in short order. Liked it so much I applied for a fall tag.

There's no substitute for finding a decent area and learning it very well year after year.

My turkey season usually lasts about an hour and never more than a day. It's not uncommon to see 30-40 toms in a day (not including Jakes).
