The shot shell that does best out of my turkey gun set-up is loaded with #5 shot. #2's certainly would be OK , but as mentioned many times already it is the total number of pellets in the kill zone at the typical 20 to 40 yard ranges that makes #4,5 and #6 a better choice.

I might try lead #2 or #3 shot if it were legal, however not steel.
I knew a guy who had used 16 gauge duck loads (#2 steel shot) for turkey, He thought because they were larger and had more velocity they would be better.
He shot the bird, it fell over, it got back up, he shot it again, it fell over again, than it got back up and ran away.

Way, Way, Way back in the 1970's I used my 1921 Ithaca® Lefever® Nitro-Special™ 16ga SxS as it was my only shotgun. I used Federal® 1Ľoz Magnums in #6 & #2 (Pb). My first and hopefully only shot was always with the #6 load. I only used the #2's if the gobbler got back up. Trying to hit a turkey running away from you in the head is hard to do. My rationale was I wanted a stopping load that could break bones and penetrate into the vitals if I required a 2nd shot. No 2's ALWAYS STOPPED THEM!
