Turkey call problems.
 

So spring turkey season is coming up and id really like to take one with my bow. Ive taken turkeys in the fall but never actually hunted exclusively for turkeys and called them in. I have a slate call a few diaphragm calls and i recently bought the flextone thunder cutt'n mouth call. The flextone is very easy to learn but i dont know if i really like the sound. On the slate call i am alright and can make some ok clucks and purs but theyre pretty soft and quiet. As for the diaphragm i have the yellow hs strutt 3 pack im not sure of the exact ones. Ive been working for a while and havnt even heard one turkey sound. I struggle to make sound at all sometimes. Im not sure if the call fits my mouth well. There is small gap between the call and the roof of my mouth that air escapes through. Is this normal? Ive tried to bend one but the frame broke. Can anyone give me some tips, recoment a video, or certain call(diaphragm, box, slate, any call) that would be good for me to learn on but still sound good?
I also wanted to know if anyone has had expierence shooting the magnus bullhead decapitation style broadheads. Im considering these. Thanks

Beginning turkey hunters should start with a box call and a push pin type call, they are the easiest to learn...

Some people have a hard time finding a mouth call that fits their mouth. Some people have the high pallet in the top of their mouth. You just have to try different sizes and find the one that is right for you. You may have to trim them up a bit along the edges to fit your mouth. If you just can't get one to work, you may just have to go with another style of call: box, slate, push, etc. Some people even like the tube calls. Just try different ones. Keep in mind that at times you will want to be hands-free to call and aim/shoot at the same time. Good luck.

There is a really good old H.S. video that teaches how to use the mouth call, you may find it on Amazon and there are also videos on YouTube that may help.


You may want to use a mouth call along with a friction call to simulate more than one hen.

I would say if you can keep the call in your mouth without a gag reflex you can learn to use it.

When I first started others told me to use a push pin or box call and not a mouth call but I stuck with it and now it is my favorite call to use and pretty much the only one I use.
