Merriams public turkey
Any of you guys know a descent place to hunt Merriams. Looking to make a trip up there in the next few years but don't want to drive all that way to get skunked. Any info would be great. Gonna start the planning and the saving now.

You didn't say what state you wanted to hunt in but Oklahoma has Merriam's in the panhandle area.

They do but they are mainly on private lands and very rare from what I've been told. I'm open to any state, just trying to get feelers out there so I can get a plan together.
Thanks |
The Black Hills of South Dakota is where you can go and hunt millions of acres of National Forest with a good Merriams population and very little human pressure because of the vast amount of acerage. I may go out this year since it's been a few years since my last trip there. The license is available online with payment by credit card. I hunt the area between Custer and Mount Rushmore when I go.

+2 on the black hills. Merriams are all across the western part of south Dakota but once again mainly on private land. The black hills is a huge national forest that carries a lot of beauty with it. I harvested my first elk there a few years back and seen a lot of turkeys and whitetails on that trip. Another good region would be along the Niobrara river in Nebraska, although I do not know how much of it is public but it would be a little bit closer for you. Best of luck to you Kelly!
