What shotgun would you recommend for a female looking to turkey hunt?

I would look at a Remington 870 youth model that
will handle a 3 inch shell, put a good screw in
Turkey choke on it and get some number 6
heavy shot Turkey loads and she will be deadly
on those Toms out to 45 yards if necessary.
Good Luck!

im sure you have made your decision and most people agree on what to use. I would def say a 20guage pump is the best bet. I have a Mossberg 12 and Mossberg 20 guage and with the right choke tube and fiber optic sights on it they are killer for hunting turkey. Obv. semi-auto is a nice way to go, but personally I love the pump. For 2 reasons, one is because it has just been the most reliable thing ever since day one. And second reason I say pump over semi-auto is because depending on how you are and how you shoot, with a semi-auto you tend to make that first shot and if you need to make a second or 3rd shot you will just keep pulling the trigger without really sighting back in on the target. With the pump, you usually make the first shot then you have to pump the gun and actually get it back to the right position and sight back in which will make that second shot just as good as the first one. I know some people are different and using the semi-auto is perfect. Im just throwing out the idea in case you are a new turkey hunter or shooter. Using that pump is a great start.

I think the suggestion of a 20 gauge is being made because people are automatically assuming that the 20g kicks less. This is fine as a general rule but it is not true all the time. Felt recoil is based on many factors and not necessarily the gauge alone. In fact, I have shot lightweight 20g shotguns that felt like they had more recoil than a heavier 12g shotgun. I think it would be more beneficial to find a shotgun...of either 12g or 20g...that fits perfectly and feels good when mounted. Then, along with good shooting form, the gun could be given some more weight with stock inserts etc, modded with a better recoil pad, and shot with lighter loads to help mitigate felt recoil.

Good luck finding a suitable shell for that for turkey hunting!!! 3" shells in the 20 are not going to kick much more than the 2-3/4" and are A LOT easier to find. Not too mention, better suited to the job at hand.
