First bird of the year
 

After being skunked the last few years, I was able to put this bird on the ground this morning. Hunting around these big hay fields has been tough, so I am extremely excited to have finally gotten the dominate bird on our property. He has given me the slip on more occasions than I would like to admit. I've had a lot of close calls and disappointing hunts, which is all part of it. No doubt that those added to the excitement of this successful hunt. What even made things better was finding a nice shed on the way back to the truck, which is in one of the pics. He weighed in @ 20.12 lbs.

Nice job! I hunted some over the weekend while I was home for Easter (southeast AL) and didn't hear a peep!

He's been gobbling his head off, probably gobbled 20 times, before he hit the ground. Guys I've talked to haven't been hearing many either much around this part of the state.

Thank you! It was 11.5".......I didn't notice it, if there was a smaller beard.
