Scouting/Hunting spring turkeys in the snow.
So my season here in Colorado is set to start in a couple weeks (April 13) and so Im starting to get out and scout the piece of land im planning on hunting. Thing is we just got a big blizzard today and dumped a couple inches of snow on the ground and I'm just wondering how this will affect the turkeys behaviour? Will they go back to winter flocks or where they even in their spring patterns yet? Should I just scout them like normal or is there another way to go about this? Any other snowy turkey hunting tips? Thanks guys!!

snow job
in eastern colorado the turkey are flocked up and your season is still 3 weeks away, don't get excited. turkey do what turkey do cause of daylight and weather has little to do with it, bet you won't find any turkey tracks in fresh snow the mid. of april, possible but don't count on it.

Oh ok. I didn't know how much weather had to do with it. I had heard somewhere that they will return to their winter flocks if a big snow comes through. But I didn't know if they had even left them. Thanks for the reply!

Well went out last night and this morning. Watched about 50 mill around and then roost last night and counted four toms fanned out. This morning watched them come off the roost and go across a field. 11 strutters. Two toms the rest jakes I think. We were a little to far away but didn't want to pressure them at all. No gobbles though, i thought that was strange.

Not that strange, it's just beginning some days
There will be gobbling, others not that much. A little warmer weather and a little more Daylight and things will pick up, important thing is you Know where to start looking. |
