Full choke question
I usually don't hunt turkey much but picked up a box for Federal 3 1/2" #5 with the flight control wad. If I use the plain full choke out of my 11-87 what should I expect for maximum range?
I plan on patterning it when it warms up, expecting 3-5 inches of more snow tonight. Does anyone have any ideas? |
I would say 40. Could be more and the only way to tell is to pattern it. Let us know how it goes. Cant wait for that snow tonite woohoo!

You might be able to make a 40 yd. shot, but I think 35 yd. might be your limit with a factory full choke. In any case, try at all ranges. It's important to know your range limit. You won't know that until you go beyond it.

I'd never recommend more than about a 40-45 yard shot. But I can tell you its probably capable out to around 50 yards. I accidentally mis-judged a shot on a Tom 2 Spring's ago and took what ended up being a 62yd shot and he dropped on the spot with barely a few flaps of the wings. This was with a Winchester SX3, 26" barrel 3 1/2" Federal Strut Shock #4's and the factory full choke. I'd assume #5's might not have the knock down power out that far..but probably fairly close. But again, the disclaimer, don't shoot much past 40-45 yards.

Thanks for the info guys. Once its warms up I'm going to pattern it.

Warm up? Is it going to do that this year? I'd like Spring 2012 back please.
