strutting

the past couple of days in kansas, n.w., most birds were still in big flocks, one tom was trying to make a hit and was getting ignored and another doz. or so looked like to me they were walking around just checking to see if their fans were still working from last year. no colored heads.

cheers

I've seen birds strut in January... I've heard gobbles all year long...

Our birds are all wintering flocked up, This will stay like this for about 2 more weeks. Big toms and their "body guards" as I like to call em with start to run Jakes off into smaller groups. Once the big boys sort out what hens they want and stay with, the rest will go their seperate ways and travel to their own remote areas... By the time Kids season comes, many of the hens will already been bred... and continue breeding for about 3 weeks or so... Then the gobblers will be henned up with the younger hens that don't breed but act like they will.. These are the pain in the ass hens cause the never go to nest.... and gobblers and all will chase em around all damn day..
