A Few Questions

Are turkeys mating in the spring? How does the sound the box call makes, cluck cluck cluck, attract a gobbler? Anything else I need to know about calls and turkey hunting?
Thanks.

Yes, they're mating in early spring.

Most often you're trying to make a gobbler come to a hen by utilizing the call. There are several different calls a turkey makes.

Here's a good source:

The box call sounds like a hen to a gobbler, if you know what you are doing!!! :) :) :)

The best thing to do is listen to the sound that real
Hens make when they are relaxed or at least listen
To a tape of some real hens. Then try to duplicate
Those sounds with your box call. All hens sound
A little different, so the exact sound as long as it
Is reasonably close is less important than the
Rhythm of the call and how frequently you call.
Generally speaking calling less is better than
Calling more, exception to this is when another
Hen gets excited and starts a conversation
With, then try to say the same thing back
A little louder than she is talking. If your
Lucky she'll get mad enough to come find
You and hopefully bring a Tom in tow.

Good Luck

turkey question

you need to read a good book to get up to speed, tom kelly's book is a real fun read.

I agree read about the wild turkey and hunting the wild turkey, I joined the Wild Turkey Federation and met some great guys that helped me get started including what books to read, videos to watch and the best calls for a beginner.
A cluck can sound like a put and instead of calling them to you you could be warning them away from you so unless your practiced at the cluck I'd start with the yelp and cutting.

Learn and then learn some more, Good luck!
