Best Turkey Loads
#31
I think Will Primos said it best. He said in the old days when you shot a bird you were up in a hurry to do the Texas-Two Step on the bird's head. With the improvements in chokes/guns/shells a well placed shot is all it takes.

I've screwed up more than once letting the bird get too close , i had to change my set up...I could nail a bird at 60 yds. but I like to get them as close as possible, shame on me, lol...the gun/choke/load combo I was using was great but not for those close shots...I recently got a Mossberg 835 12 gauge so I spent yesterday trying 9 different loads at 40 yds., then I took the top 3 and shot from 20 yds., the Turkey Supreme won....#5 1 3/4 oz. 3''.
You have to know what works best in your set up before entering the woods...borrow some loads if you need too.

Good post and do note - When I dial in my guns at a specific yardage - and say the gun patterns well at 45 yards - all the while I was adjusting my open sights or my scope to get this done -
Before I put my gun away and while I am happy with that pattern - I do take a few more shots at 10, 20 and even 30 yards.
doing that gives me the confidence to know where this guns shoots!
I like them close - so close I like to see the fuzz in their heads!
And you are correct - even though I don't use a Mossberg - each gun is different even from the same manufacturer- one needs to do their own homework to find the correct choke/shot combination for that gun!
