RMG, will turkeys always return to roost in the same grove of trees like a "base camp," or will they just roost wherever they end up when the sun goes down?

Im not RMG but turkeys will roost in the same area if they havent been pressured or disturbed. If you start pressuring them while they are roosted or hunting pressure during the season will cause them to move, so thats why its important to put them to roost the night befor you go hunting so you know for shure where they are in the morning! Many factors can cause them to move roosting areas but water and food keeps them locatable.

Roosting ain't roasting  I guess it's nice to be able to roost a bird so that you can be sitting in his dining room in the morning. I've personally never done much roosting due to my proximity to hunting areas. I've got 45min - 1hr drive no matter which way I go so I usually just hit up the places that I know hold birds.

LibertyS,
Mariam's will return to the same Roost area every year My favorite roost area is about 400 ft square but they have another roost area about 1,000 ft. lower and they will be in one or both any given spring season. Mariam's move as all turkeys do later for their winter roost areas for better weather, new food source and less snow here, other states new food source.

(Wintering areas) Mariam's will be 2 to 3 miles or so from their spring roost areas usually at a lower elevation.
