Calling
 

The turkey I hunt roost on the property next to me about 300 yards away. I hear them gobble almost every morning in the spring season but i just don't have what it takes to call them in. How long should I wait after the first gobble to start calling? Any other tip i should know? Thanks

Calling to birds that far away will be double tough. I would determine if the birds are moving near or onto the land you hunt. Sometimes, being the early bird doesn't always catch the worm. If you can determine the time they are closest to you, be there and be waiting for them. Start by calling softly, and continue getting louder until you get a response.
If the birds are not traveling your direction, you are better off finding other birds.

Hello ruttin. I am far from an expert but I can share a few things that I would be trying. We hunt nothing but public land so we often have to try to pull birds from private land. What time of the day are you trying to call to the gobbling birds? I ask this because the gobblers may be with hens already. Tough to call them away from the real thing. Try some soft calling in the morning and then set back and relax. Let the gobblers do there thing for a few hours and they may come looking for that hen (you) they heard earlier. This has worked for me on many occasions.
Like gamblin man has said, knowing if the birds travel near your property would give you some other options. Good luck.
