3 inch is plenty I use the 500 and never had a problem dropping a bird . I call them to within 25 yards and they drop in their tracks

With todays loads (heavier than lead)...a 3" gun will make a fine harvester of thunderchickens. What is more important is the pattern.

I've got the 500, and it has worked. Only been hunting 2 years and one bird, but it dropped on the spot. As mentioned before. It probably doesn't make much of a difference. What will make the difference is what load you use and if it patterns well. Find one that will pattern well and you'll be killing birds.

I gotta say, when you got a bead on a turkey, and let some shot fly, you wont even notice the recoil. Good hunting to you.

I'm not a big mossberg guy but I would go with either one. But really a remington or benelli is what I would get I like them much better

I prefer the pistol grip. Just much more comfortable for me to hold onto for long periods while waiting for a bird to come on in.

I have heard some people say they don't like it with a heavy recoiling gun but for the life of me I can't see why. I feel much more in control of the gun, am able to keep it tighter against my shoulder and feel like it distributes the recoil over multiple areas. In short I like it better.
