7 Attachment(s)
Season opened Wednesday here in Indiana, got out that afternoon in Lanesville IN. saw a Tom with 2 hens in the corn field. Went down the hill got geared up,got in the woods behind them and called,it was 2:30 in the afternoon. He gobbled for 30 minutes off and on but would not come to me,went silent game over.
Hunted in Sulpher IN. Thursday morning, got one gobbling coming in to me and my buddy Kent then another hunter hears him and walks into our kill zone looking for the bird. The bird flys off, game over.
Hunted my tail off until tonight and yet another dead end, almost. Saw some birds in Memphis IN. in a corn field I got my bird in last year, but they went away form me when I called. I thought my calling was going down hill or something. Well I got my binos out and scaned woods to my left and then I saw why they were moving away. A coyote was 300 yards to my left looking for Turkey like me. Packed up and went were I killed my first Turkey 3 years ago,it was 6:30. Walked back and sat down under a tree I shot my Buck last season, gave a yelp and some clucks, bingo! One gobbled and would not stop until he got to the edge of the thick woods, looked at my decoy and went back 40 or 50 yards into the woods still gobbling! I let him get far enough away and did a left flanking move on him, eased into the woods about 80 yards around and 30 yards back into the woods.Sat down at a log in front of me,and used a different type call,he came like he was on rails right to me strutting and gobbling. He cleard the trees and under brush about 35 yards out. I droped him right there with my Mossburg 835,game over. This bird would not come out of the woods so I went in after him,I was determined to end the week with a bird and here he is. He is my biggest yet 23lbs. 10 inch Beard and a 7/8 left spur & 3/4 right spur. I love this Turkey hunting stuff! Lets pour it on Beard Bandits!
