Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Bird 3# Goes Down

Nothing special. Young two year old. 16 lbs 3 oz. 1/2 inch spurs and 8 inch beard. Killed him in down in the swamp. Kind of a flash hunt. Got him to gobble at a box call. Set up against a big tree. Yelped to him once on a slate and within a minute he was standing in front of me at 40 yards. This is the farthest shot I have taken with the Hevi-13 7's so far and let me tell you. They do just fine to 40. He went down like Marvis Frazier in the first round of the Tyson fight.

Goodness sake they are very generous in Bama, we get one little Tom in Indiana. They must have Turkeys on every corner and every acre of land down there.

There is an estimated 1/2 million turkeys in the state. Alabama has always been a good state for turkey hunting. But I bet some of those gobblers in corn country up there are big enough to make you stop and rest at least once on the way back to the truck. LOL!

Todd1700,I'm not sure how Indiana stacks up against other states Turkeys but 20lbs. plus is what I have seen myself and my friends harvest every year.My first was an 18 lb. Jake because my goal the first season was to call in any Turkey and drop one, this guy was the biggest of 4 Jakes and got to come home with me. We averaged about 22lbs on all our birds last year with 1" to 1 1/2 hooks and 10" beards. Like I said I don't know if this is average for all Eastern Turkeys or not.
