Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Shot pattern.

I hear ya. Quite honestly, when I run out of what I have left (4) I'm going to look into something more OTC. Nitro's are great, but obtaining them isn't as simple as going to Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops and getting a box. Know-what-I-mean?

Guess we were all wrong on this one. You are right it was not 40 yards. Or 15 or 20 or 35. I went back out there with my 100ft tape. It was about 95ft so only about 30 yards. Then I had my brother-in-law and sister measure it to be sure I wasn't hallucinating. . I did get kinda pissed. But at least I can admit I was wrong. Nevertheless, I still feel confident with the pattern. I don't plan on taking any shots much past 30 yards anyways. Just my personal preference and choice. The cheap $189 Bushnell Sport range finder is history. I doubt they will fix it since it is over a year old now. I should have known better, I did pace off the distance and did appear to be coming up a little short but I didn't think it was off by 10 yards. Guess we learn from our mistakes. Another thing with the range finder is sometimes when it sits in the sun, (even for a few minutes on a relatively cool day), the display gets all screwy looking. At least I know where I stand now.... I do believe I will be using my CB for the fall season though. Good luck and happy hunting everyone. Congrats to those of you who have already got their bird(s). We are allowed one male for the spring season here in Indiana. Then one of either sex for the fall season....

Mistakes happen. Still a great pattern at 30 and will still be good at 40. Don't sweat it.

That is right Buck, wipe off the dust and try another shot at 40 yards. Its no big deal and you are one of the few that would come back and admit that it was not right.

The pattern was great for 30 yards and I would say you still have a 40 yard pattern too just it will be about 30% shot in shot, but that is normal.

You just learned a little here and thats what is it is all about right ?

Lets see a 40 yard now Bud !

I agree. My biggest complaint about the load, besides its cost, is that is in 7 shot. That will not have alot of energy over 30yds for what I feel would be a killing, on the spot shot. Now if it were in 6's, I would feel better. For I have shot over 250K clay birds and have seen clays just leave an orange smoke ring in the air and not break, even from the 16yd line. So that is closer than the described distance you mentioned.
I just feel the energy would not be there over that distance.
And who is to say that you are going to get that bird within your kill distance? My .02 cents.

Second , I believe the young lad was shooting #6. The thread was not about #7 shot but rather was brought up when Nitro ammo was referred in a reply.

As for killing turkeys with #7 I have to stand up and say they do drop them as good as #6 as I have done it myself a couple times.

I'm thinking you have got mixed up with my quoted thread here...

So ol Mr. Longbeard aint such a DA after all huh...

Dude I'm still stickin to to my guns... How about doing a little 6th grade math with that 100ft tape measure you got and set a target up at 40 yards (120ft) and throw one of them awsome remington nitro shells down range and post a pic of that... I already know what the patterns going to look like but maybe some of these inexperienced turkey hunters would learn something!!!

lol... didn't know I implied you were a DA. I figured you knew what you were doing and listened to what you've had to say. Believe that. What's up with that 6th grade math, Remington Nitro shells, and inexperienced turkey hunters statement. It appears there is a lot of negativity there. I was trying to get some good info and learn some things. I AM an inexperienced turkey hunter! Maybe it's just me, or maybe you don't realize you are doing it, but you give me the impression that people who don't buy the top shelf products & have turkey hunted for years, and really know their .... are an annoyance or less of person to you. Could be wrong, heaven forbid that I make a mistake. Just seems like something not right with your tone. Sorry if I upset you or something. You just go and kill your turkeys with your 60yrd gun. And I'll go kill my turkey with my cheap 30 yard Mossberg 500 & discounted, off the shelf choke.... I apologize, but I no longer want to be a part of what you're turning into a pissing match.
